Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SPECIAL PANEL: Global to Local Approach: The Ending Violence Against Children Campaign

Room: Kintamani 2; Tuesday April 17th, 2018

Time: 10am to 11-15am (WITA - Indonesia Central Time)

Violence impacts millions of girls and boys, in everyday places with familiar faces, but its impacts are often overlooked. Several years ago, UNICEF launched the ENDViolence against children campaign to bring visibility to the issue. ENDViolence takes a “glocal” approach, connecting the global campaign with local SBCC activities at the country level. This panel, made up of practitioners from academia, UNICEF, and the entertainment education sector, will explore what works in bridging global and national level SBCC strategies as part of the EndViolence campaign, with a special focus on the engagement of entertainment media in social and behavior change to end violence against children.

The panel will begin with an overview by the moderator of the key contributions to date of the ENDViolence campaign, including laying the ground to establish the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, fostering political commitments of 15 pathfinder countries, improving data on violence, and the formulation of seven global strategies to end violence. The panel will conclude with insights from the Executive Director of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation on how to productively work with the entertainment sector to create effective content for shifting behaviors, attitudes and norms related to violence.
