Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Registration deadline extension - What Works Summit

To: What Works? Summit - Cross-committees space

910 people registered now - Registration deadline extended to March 30, 2018 - Summit capacity is 1,200

Hi - I just sent the following note to the Summit Communications sub-committee that has been leading the charge on mobilising abstract submissions and registrations to attend. If you are also able to communicate below to your networks and contacts that would be fantastic. The major focus is (a) more people registering and (b) increasing update on the revenue opportunities. (Apologies to the Comms folks for duplicate notes.)

Note sent to Communications sub-commitee

Hi folks - just a quick note to let you know that the Secretariat and Steering Committee have agreed to extend the registration deadline for the Summit from Monday March 19, 2018 to Friday 30 March 2018. There are presently 910 people registered for the Summit plus a couple of major orgs have "reserved" 25 places each whilst they get the required travel permissions in place. This is excellent. Along with the 1,200 plus abstract submissions received this demonstrates huge interest and relevance. But as the absolute maximum conference center capacity is 1,200 there is no down-side to leaving registratione open for a bit longer and seeing if we can fill the place! If you can get the word out to your networks and members that would be excellent. Can we also please ask that in your communications you stress:

1. People can register here.

2. It is first come first served. When we reach the 1,200 number that will be it!

3. The opportunities for organisations to highlight their work and support the Summit cane be reviewed through the sponsorships possibilities outlined at this link. If you can encourage everyone to consider that would be excellent.

4. There are still a few exhibition booths available - details at this link.

5. They can also book auxiliary rooms for any events they wish to organise - see this link

6. The confirmed keynote Speakers can be reviewed here

The agenda will be released very soon and the Secretariat and Steering Committee for the Summit can be communicated through this link.

Thanks - very much appreciated - Warren

To: People involved in What Works? Summit committees

Hi - just a quick update on registrations for the Summit. As per previous communications, from a base of excellent registration levels, we extended the all to March 31st.

From March 19th (previous deadline) to today (March 26th noon as I write) there have been 98 further registrations which is excellent.

The total number of people now fully registered is 1,043.

When combined with those who have registered and requested an invoice and the substantial number of places reserved by a couple of large agencies whilst they sort out travel permissions etc we could be in the 1,125 range.

Thought you might appreciate the udpate. Plus the clear implication is that if you know of people who are considering attending suggest that they register very soon given the 1,200 maximum.

With many thanks for all of your communications to all of your networks.

Please do not forget to incude #SBCCSummit in all of your communications.

Happy to answer any questions - thanks - Warren
