Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

New Knowledge Summary Pages

So, continuing the intro to the new The CI platform for your review and comment. There is a new design for the knowledge summaries. Some features follow: Network contacts featured and can edit; "More Like This"; exposed taxonomy terms; link to full source references and documents; comments; videos; full navigation; and much more. Further details with examples follow. Please do edit one of the knowledge summaries for which you are the network contact (how to find these is below also):

  • People who are the network contacts for these summaries (so shared the original, raw material with us for further communication and were engaged in the accuracy note process) can now edit their own knowledge.
  • As an example please go here: Reducing Violence by Transforming Neighborhoods: A Natural Experiment in Medellin, Colombia
  • The network contact is clearly identified - Magdalena and you can link to her profile that includes the capacity to contact her.
  • The network contacts can now edit their own knowledge. For example, when logged in Magdalena will be able to edit this summary...
  • ...as you will be able to do with any knowledge for which you are the netwiork contact ...
  • ...to find these log in, click your username top right and then click View My Profile - see the list of content
  • The full list of taxonomy terms appied to the summary can be accessed by clicking the line to the right of categories. By clicking ay term you can then access all knowledge coded with that term
  • The "More Like This" block to the right includes titles and links for the 5 knowledge summaries that most closely match (based on taxonomy terms applied) the main summary on a page
  • The summary itself remains as is.
  • There is a link to the full document on an external site or pdf
  • There is a further link to the network contact
  • When logged in network participants can post comments.
  • Videos are added when relevant
  • The full navigation system is at the top and the bottom of the page

This is just a quick look at some of the features for all of the 35,000 knowledge summaries, blogs etc. Please do use the comments form to ask any questions or make suggestions.

Thanks - Warren
