Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Investigating Adverse Events Following Immunization

SummaryText

Acknowledging that the cause of a large proportion of adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) cannot be established by AEFI causality assessment committees due to incomplete AEFI investigation, the World Health Organization (WHO) created this e-learning course to help personnel learn: (i) when to launch an investigation, (ii) what information is required to successfully complete an investigation, (iii) how to successfully manage interpersonal communication with relevant stakeholders; and (iv) how to determine when, what, and how best to communicate with involved parties during an investigation.

The participant in this highly interactive, two-hour, e-learning course may learn at his or her own pace. Featuring role plays and a game-based intervention, the course calls upon the participant to investigate serious AEFI through 3 distinct scenarios in different continents (Europe, Asia, and Africa), which become incrementally more challenging to complete. Following successful course completion, the participant will be able to download a course certificate.
